Investment Management
As retirement approaches or begins, the day comes when you no longer want to spend time monitoring markets, researching investments, or wondering whether every decision is the right one.
Instead, you see the value in having an experienced professional oversee your portfolio with care and discipline, helping you experience the freedom and time to actually enjoy the life you worked hard to build.
HOW THIS HELPS YOU
- Led by a CFA® charterholder, your investment management framework is designed to balance returns, risk and cost-efficiency.
- Each investment decision is made alongside tax planning and withdrawal strategies to help align every aspect of your wealth.
- We pursue growth as the right opportunities arise, while staying mindful of protecting what you’ve already built.
Financial Planning
Our role is to bring structure to the financial decisions shaping your retirement.
We look at income strategy, cash reserves, Roth conversion opportunities, healthcare considerations, estate planning needs, and all the other moving parts that influence long-term outcomes.
By accumulating a wide breadth of your information, we are in a unique position to provide proactive and strategic personalized advice.
Just as importantly, we help keep everything organized and progressing toward your financial goals, taking the responsibility off your shoulders so you have the breathing room to relax.
HOW THIS HELPS YOU
- Key areas like withdrawals, tax opportunities, long-term care insurance needs, and beneficiary reviews are addressed proactively.
- Whether markets shift, expenses change, or life circumstances evolve, you have a trusted resource to guide the next step.
- Knowing there is a process in place and professional overseeing your financial plan can make this next chapter feel far more manageable.
Tax Strategy
Many retirees and pre-retirees have substantial savings but haven’t fully explored how withdrawals, Social Security timing, required distributions, or Roth conversions may affect their long-term tax picture.
Tax planning meaningfully impacts how much of your wealth stays with you over time. We help bring those decisions into focus, looking further than this year’s return to help identify opportunities that can benefit you over time.
HOW THIS HELPS YOU
- With a proactive, integrated approach, taxes become part of every wealth conversation from the start, rather than added on as an afterthought.
- We evaluate where income should come from, when it may make sense to realize gains or convert assets, and how future tax brackets could shape today’s choices.
- We’ll coordinate with your CPA or other professionals to help ensure strategies are implemented thoughtfully and efficiently.
Behavioral Finance Coaching
While selecting suitable investments is important, it’s not the only factor impacting your success long-term. In fact, behavioral coaching can add meaningful value to your portfolio, as the decisions you make during periods of uncertainty, market volatility, and major life transitions greatly impact investment outcomes.
Using an investment behavior assessment, we learn how you naturally think about risk, opportunity, and financial decisions. Understanding your priorities helps us best communicate with you and build a strategy aligned with your comfort level.
We aim to deliver perspective when emotions run high, as we help you stay disciplined, avoid costly reactions, and make thoughtful decisions with confidence over time.
HOW THIS HELPS YOU
- Whether you’re a big-picture thinker or prefer details, communication is tailored to how you best process financial decisions.
- Understanding your decision-making style, pace, and motivators helps us provide guidance in a way that feels clear, productive, and aligned with your needs.
- Identifying common investment blind spots allows us to proactively guard against emotional decisions and keep choices grounded in long-term strategy.
Our Investment Philosophy and Approach
Your portfolio should reflect the return objectives for your own needs and goals, not a
one-size-fits-all benchmark.
The Guardrails Method
Bringing flexibility and discipline to your retirement income strategy, the guardrails method adjusts spending based on market movements and portfolio performance.
Your withdrawal rates respond to real life and real market changes, helping sustain your lifestyle and protect the longevity of your wealth for years to come.
Core and Explore
Remain grounded in your long-term plan without limiting exploration…
Remain grounded in your long-term plan without limiting exploration. A “core” portion of your portfolio is built around diversified, long-term investments.
These are designed to help provide stability and broad market exposure, while a smaller “explore” portion is used to enhance diversification, pursue areas of opportunity, and increase exposure to investment themes and other alternatives.
The “Plan B” Strategy
We’ll review your “Plan B” approach, which will be implemented if a 20% stock downturn happens…
Market downturns are part of investing for the long term. We created a 5-step process designed to help you successfully manage stock market downturns.
Our “Plan B” approach incorporates several strategies, including rebalancing your portfolio and identifying tax-minimizing opportunities.
We’ll leverage our understanding of your unique behavioral finance profile to address concerns and avoid potential biases that could impact long-term outcomes.
What Does Your Retirement Journey Look Like?

Pre-Retirement
In the years leading up to retirement, you have an opportunity to align your decisions with what you’ll need to feel confident and financially ready for whatever the future may bring. Every question and decision you make now shapes your financial well-being in retirement.
With that in mind, we work to address every aspect of your wealth-from long-term care insurance and retirement to taxes and investments. Our goal is to align your moves today with retirement that’s right around the corner.
During our four-week sprint, we will:
- Connect all accounts to your personalized planning portal to obtain a 360-degree overview of your net worth
- Establish your goals and integrate data to make sure all aspects of your wealth are accounted for
- Walk you through detailed recommendations designed to strengthen your retirement plan and help support your goals
- Work together to implement our recommendations
Early Retirement
The first few years of retirement are your time to experience freedom, truly and deeply, for the first time in decades.
Travel often, visit family, pursue your passions, and spend confidently—all with the assurance your financial plan supports your years ahead.
During our semi-annual meetings & quarterly check-ins, we will:
- Create a distribution plan for your portfolio and other income sources to support the lifestyle you desire
- Consider adjusting portfolio asset allocation to prioritize more conservative income sources
- Generate a tax projection and evaluate opportunities to help optimize taxes now and across future tax years
- Evaluate your existing portfolio closely and reassess your risk tolerance with stress test scenarios
Mid Retirement
As you settle into a comfortable, fulfilling routine, your spending priorities and goals will eventually evolve.
Now’s the time you might start thinking about transitioning your living space, moving closer to kids, or planning out a generational legacy for your loved ones.
During our semi-annual meetings & quarterly check-ins, we will:
- Compare cash flow recommendations against real life spending
- Update spending guardrails as needed to reflect evolving market conditions
- Make sure required minimum distributions (RMDs) are being met and continue to generate tax projections.
- Continue to assess risk tolerance and revisit “Plan B” strategy, should a market downturn occur
Late Retirement
With quieter days ahead, you’re relying on the planning you did decades before to help you feel cared for and supported.
As you relax and focus on the activities that bring you joy, we’ll make sure your estate plan, health care strategies, and other needs remain well-cared for.
During our semi-annual meetings & quarterly check-ins, we will:
- Provide information and education on tax-focused gifting strategies
- Coordinate pay for long-term care or senior living community costs
- Revisit estate planning documents and update beneficiary titling as needed
- Make sure estimated tax payments are made to help avoid tax underpayment penalties

What is your investment philosophy?
We design portfolios intended to pursue strong long-term results while managing risk. This is accomplished through thoughtful diversification utilizing various asset classes, sectors, and geographies. Our clients gain most of their portfolio exposure to stocks and bonds through ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds).
What separates us from many of our peers is that we incorporate investments outside of traditional stocks and bonds, referred to as alternatives, such as private real estate, private credit, and private equity. These are designed to enhance diversification and provide additional sources of return, with different risk characteristics.
We complete a risk tolerance questionnaire with each new client and discuss in depth their unique financial goals and timeline to ensure their portfolio is aligned.
